Dear Writer

I happened to notice this guy in my local coffee shop. Not that kind of notice! Like, I analyzed him. He was writing and reading a book. So I made the assumption. He’s a writer, obviously. Then I noticed how he’d pause when a group of elderly ladies came in. And it’s made me very curious. What’s he thinking? How’s he going to finish his sentence/paragraph? What’s he even writing? Anyways, he intrigued me. Although I’ll never know what he was actually writing, I decided to write about him. This is a completely platonic poem, I have an amazing boyfriend. I just notice things. Or in other words I’m just weird. Anyways, I hope you like it.

  Dear writer

What do you write?

How do you write it?
Do words float off your page?
Does your pen come to life?
What thoughts do you think?
Such a stern deep stare,
Off into space you go.
What do you think?
What thoughts have you to write?
Personal accounts?
A story perhaps?
So curious I am, stranger
About your being.
So connected I feel
By one common ideal.
That look you give,
When your mind is spinning
When the pen is not
yet touching it’s accomplice.
When you allow yourself a pause.
To breathe, take in your surroundings
And continue.
Such a connection this is,
For I have known that same look.
For I have felt that same pause
Even as I noticed you have.
Dear writer, may we meet again.
Maybe a day will come,
I’ll get to read such tales you told.
May they be filled with wonder
Though I know not what you right.
Nor who you are.

      • To be curious and analyze the world is a good thing! It makes you aware and gives you more ideas to write upon! 🙂

      • True, true. Lol. My boyfriend hates it sometimes because sometimes I go over board with it. But he does the same thing too, so it’s okay. Lol. It does help with writing though. I wasn’t even planning on writing today, I went into the coffee shop to do homework.

      • Just be careful not to get into your own head. I tended to do that when I was younger but I kind of grew out of it once I learned I couldn’t spend so much time focusing or worrying on things I couldn’t control.

      • Yeah, I totally relate to that. It’s hard not to sometimes. I am a natural worry-wart to begin with, and an overly analytical one at that. So, sometimes it’s a lot harder to snap out of it. But I guess that’s why there’s a boyfriend and friends.

      • That gets better as you age. You tend to worry less about things and situations. You mellow out.
